Welcome!

Thank you for your interest in the Al-Anon Chatters.

If you are new to Al-Anon, go to the Official Al-Anon Web Site or the Online Al-Anon Information Service web site. These links may help you understand the guidelines advocated by Al-Anon. We urge everyone to seek out a local meeting, what we call a face to face (f2f) meeting, particularly if you are a newcomer to Al-Anon. In Al-Anon we believe that everyone can benefit from the 12 steps, Serenity Prayer, etc. It DOES NOT matter what race, religion, sex, age etc. one is, nor does it matter WHY one has come to Al-Anon as long as you have a relationship with an alcoholic in some fashion. Members may be spouses, children of (ACOA), friends of, family relations, even alcoholics (members also in AA) etc.

The reason one seeks out Al-anon is NOT important, and as in local meetings, we try not to advise, but listen, not to judge, but understand, and allow people to find their own solutions. Someone, somewhere, either in a local meeting, or convention or in the Chat Room has probably walked in your shoes, but please remember that only YOU know how YOU feel, and those feelings are real and important.

Chat meetings are scheduled - Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 9 PM EST.

DISCLAIMER: AFG Alanonchatters does NOT ENDORSE other sites whose links you may find in the links section. They are listed as a courtesy to help members find sites which they may find helpful.

We have members from all over the world. Not every country has the same Ala-non groups and resources that we have access to in North America -we hope that through these outside links they may find the help they need. Documents and thoughts found on these sites may not be Conference Approved. Use your common sense when accessing these sites - make your own decisions about their relevance to your recovery journey.

Be aware that there MAY be reference made to NON CAL material in the email and message board sharing. (We strive to use Conference Approved Literature only during our live meetings and weekly focus.) "Take what you need and leave the rest".

Also, you may find marked differences between the way this online group works and the way a "face to face" meeting is run. At the present, there is no service manual for online groups. We hope that you will find enough similarities to feel comfortable here at the AFG Alanonchatters site.

Your first few emails will be moderated for content. This done as a safety measure for all of our members and to hopefully cut down on "spamming". No flaming is allowed. We are here for mutual support, respect and recovery from the chaos that living with an alcoholic creates in our lives.

And speaking of emails, there are times when the number of emails can be overwhelming. Please note that you can set your preferences as to how you receive your emails. Rather than be overwhelmed, try setting your preferences to either daily digest or to no mail.
